Carlijn Diesfeldt is regional agent for central and western Netherlands, representing the region of Utrecht, North Holland, northern South Holland and southern Flevoland.
Carlijn is trained as a cultural scientist and works as a curator. She initiates and curates long-term art programmes that relate to the region and its challenges. In doing so, she connects different parties, both inside and outside contemporary art. Among other things, Carlijn curates the art programme Gemene Grond in Utrecht, where residents and entrepreneurs are involved as co-commissioners in art projects in shared space. In the Zaanstreek and the IJmond region, Diesfeldt develops a long-term vision for art linked to various developments taking place here, such as the redevelopment from industry to residential area and all the tensions that go with it.
Carlijn advises on commissioned art and is a member of various art committees, such as those of municipalities Beverwijk, Zaanstad and Utrecht.
On the position of regional agent:
“As a mediator, I am active in the Zaanstreek, IJmond region and Utrecht province, among others. Maybe these areas are not far from the Randstad, but that does not mean that distance is not felt. I look forward to bringing commissioners, artists and initiatives in the Central/West region and the Mondriaan Fund closer together.”
