Friday 20 September 13:15-14:45
Victoria & Albert Museum
presents Collecting as an Agent for Social Change
Throughout the last decade, curators have introduced counter-narratives of photography by exploring alternative approaches to visual storytelling and questioning ethics within curating. Curators, photographers, and scholars aim to decolonise, restyle, and reinvent the global identity of communities. This conversation will challenge established categories and propose new requirements in an attempt to anticipate future conditions of the medium from the viewpoint of the curators and the institutions they represent.

Margriet Schavemaker (Artistic Director, Amsterdam Museum) in conversation with Mark Sealy (Director, Autograph ABP), Nadine Wietlisbach (Director, Fotomuseum Winterthur), Marc Mouarkech (Director, Arab Image Foundation), Marine Tanguy (Founder, MTArt Agency).

Saturday 21 September 12:00-13:00
LagosPhoto presents The Fluidity of Images – Globalised Aesthetics?
Recurring aesthetics in photography allow images to become relatable regardless of where or by whom they were taken. Does the digital circulation of images mean that people working in and around the photographic medium have an increased responsibility to question – or challenge – contemporary visual tendencies? Here, a panel of artists and experts consider the politics of representation, and whether the photographic field truly encourages diverse perspectives. Who has the right to filter what we see and how we see it, and what are the effects of so-called ‘globalised aesthetics’?

Dr. Anna-Kaisa Rastenberger (curator, author, and researcher) in conversation with Joana Choumali (visual artist), Elizabeth Gabrielle Lee (visual artist and Founder, XING), and David Uzochukwu (visual artist).

Sunday 22 September 13:15-14:45
Victoria & Albert Museum presents Obsessions – What does it mean to be a collector?
The term ‘collector’ can be used to describe a multitude of professions, passions, and identities. To collect can be to amass, activate and safeguard; to both hoard and share. Hear from a range of voices discussing their varied experiences as collectors, delving deep into the power and purposes of collecting photography.

Catherine Troiano (Curator, National Trust) in conversation with Artur Walther (Founder, The Walther Collection), Paul Bogaers (visual artist), and Alexandra Lethbridge (visual artist).
