Greylight Projects (Heerlen) offers a residency to artists living in the Netherlands to deepen their practice and expand their network. The residence is part of Borderland Residencies, a Euregional network of art institutions. The residency period ends with an open studio weekend.
Greylight Projects is a visual arts platform that focuses on the development and presentation of visual and contemporary art projects. Greylight Projects wants to encourage collaboration and connection between artists, bring makers together and engage in conversation with each other.
Since 2020, the artist-driven organisation has been working from a former school building close to the centre of the old mining town. The building has various spaces and functions such as a spacious multifunctional exhibition space, ‘the Salon’, and there is a well-equipped workshop, a canteen and a spacious garden. The location has a strong connection with the neighbourhood, the city and the region. Guided by the open question ‘Where are we now?’, Greylight Projects invites artists to reflect on the relationships between art, space, time and the audience. How do we experience the changing (mental) architecture? The residency is in search of artists who have a connection with these issues and work in the form of research, installations (video, sculpture, sound), performances or other media. The Greylight Projects team will guide you during your stay.
For whom?
This residency programme is intended for multidisciplinary visual artists who see their work in relation to space, time and the environment; the residency also welcomes artists who are open to sharing their practice with other artists, makers and curators. The medium is not subject to restrictions, but the practice does need to be in line with the programme on offer.
The Borderland Residencies programme is in English, and in Dutch and English at the Greylight Projects.
Work period
1 work period is available:
- 01 September to 30 November 2025
The contribution
The Mondriaan Fund makes a monthly contribution of € 2,165 available to help cover travel expenses, material costs and accommodation costs. This sum is intended for one person. The selected resident is expected to pay a 10% personal contribution (the Mondriaan Fund automatically takes this into account in their ultimate subsidy, you do not need to do anything).
In the case that a duo or collaboration is selected for the residency, the associated contribution will be raised to cover additional travel expenses, as well as a proportionate sum to contribute to the other applicant’s accommodation costs.
The contribution to residents based in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom can be increased to accommodate any higher travel costs. This is considered on a case-by-case basis.
Applications
The deadline for submitting an application for a work period in 2025 is 26 September 2024 before 04:00 PM (CEST) / 10:00 AM (AST).
Before submitting an application, please see the Residency page for the terms and conditions, application procedure and assessment procedure.
Please also read the terms and conditions applicable to Mondriaan Fund contributions.
Selectie
An advisory committee assists in the selection process, recommending candidates to Borderland Residencies based on the submitted documents. Borderland Residencies has ultimate responsibility for selecting the participants in the residency.
Other grants for residencies in the Netherlands and other countries
As only 1 or 2 residents can be selected for any given residency during each selection round, many applicants will be disappointed. For this reason, we point out that you can also apply for an Artist Project with a residency at a different location. That Artist Project residency location may not be one of those already offered in the Mondriaan Fund Residency application round.
