New approach Prix de Rome 2025

The selection procedure for the Prix de Rome Visual Arts 2025 has been revamped. For this edition, a five-member jury has visited many exhibitions over the past year, scouting artists. In March 2025, the jury will deliberate on the selection and compile a shortlist. It will be announced in April. In autumn 2025, the exhibition with new work will be on show at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.   

The Jury

The jury consists of curators, writers and directors of visual art institutions. Eelco van der Lingen, director of the Mondriaan Fund, chairs the jury without voting rights. The composition of the jury will be announced at the same time as the shortlist.  

About the Prix de Rome

The Prix de Rome is the incentive prize for talented visual artists in the Netherlands and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. The four nominees receive a working budget to create new work. This work will be on display at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. 

Based on the new work, the jury will choose the final winner. The winning artist will receive a sum of €40,000 and the opportunity to participate in a residency programme of their choice. The aim of the Prix de Rome is to stimulate the development of highly talented artists and to boost their visibility, thereby ensuring that the visual art field remains topical.  

The Prix de Rome Visual Arts is organised by the Mondriaan Fund on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. The presentation is organised in cooperation with the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
