Marc Wellmann is the Artistic Director of the Berlin Kunstverein Haus am Lützowplatz (HaL) in Berlin. He was Director of Exhibitions at the Georg-Kolbe-Museum in Berlin (2008-2012) and before that he was working as a freelance curator and Head of Artist Liaison at Gallery Volker Diehl. Wellmann has curated numerous solo exhibitions with local as well as international artists such as Christian Jankowski, Thomas Feuerstein, Rejiro Wada, Brad Downey, Jen Ray, Fabian Marcaccio, Antony Gormley, Anton Henning, Wim Delvoye, Shilpa Gupta, Brent Wadden, Thorsten Brinkmann and Mathilde ter Heijne.
Wellmann studied Art History and American studies at the Free University (FU) in Berlin. Doctorate in 2004 at the University of Arts in Berlin (UdK) on the topic ‘The Discovery of Blurred Optics and Painting: On the relationship between art and science from the 15th to the 19th century’. Teaching assignment at the UdK and FU-Berlin. Several publications on the art of the 20th and 21st centuries. Among others: Bernhard Heiliger, monograph and catalogue raisonné (2005); Die Macht des Dinglichen. Sculpture today! (2007); Romantic Machines. From 2004 to 2015 he was a member of the board of directors the Bernhard Heiliger Foundation in Berlin.
