María Lucía has been part of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Panama since 2015 and a member of the Board of Directors. Since July 2020, she has served as Executive Director. Under her tenure, the opening of the Research Center and Archive Room and La Bóveda – an experimental exhibition space – have materialized. After 40 years, the position of Chief Curator was reinstated, while the Museum’s Graphic Laboratory and publications were reactivated. In 2018, she founded the Art Program of Creativa Coffee District in the country’s coffee region and curated two international art residencies that explored new relationships between contemporary art and the world of specialty coffee. Her studies related to different disciplines of the visual arts, as well as contemporary art practices and independent art spaces include institutions such as the McIntire Department of Arts at the University of Virginia, Museum of Fine Arts of Buenos Aires, Art Student League from New York, Art Institute of Chicago and online courses from MOMA and Node Center. She has been a guest speaker at the University of Pennsylvania, Zona MACO, the University of Panama and the III Panamanian Congress of Education and Museums.
