Since 2001, we have worked together on an artistic practice that explores the relationship between humans and nature, especially in a time when the lines between reality and its fictional or virtual representations are becoming more blurred.

Our work includes digital animations, installations, public art, and performances, all driven by our interest in media, mythology, music, and technology — exploring how humans shape and interpret their surroundings. We create technically complex films that combine live action, photography, and experimental digital animation, often collaborating with scholars, composers, musicians, and choreographers to bring out the diverse references that inform our interpretations of landscapes and memory.

With a DIY mindset, we treat our virtual worlds as sculptural projects, where every element is carefully and consciously crafted. Both of us graduated in Graphic Design from the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, followed by an MFA at the Sandberg Institute. We were also artists in residence at the Rijksakademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. Our work has been exhibited in museums, film festivals, conferences, and institutions worldwide, including the Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), Centre Pompidou (Paris), the Biennale of Sydney, and the Netherlands Pavilion at the 2024 Gwangju Biennale.

Currently, we are working on several new projects, including public space commissions, a publication on Rhine mythology, and new films and exhibitions. We also occasionally give workshops and lectures at art schools and conferences in the Netherlands and internationally. Additionally, we serve as advisors for the Creative Industries Foundation, the Dutch Culture Foundation, and the Amsterdam Committee for the Arts, and are board members of LOODS 6, a cultural center in Amsterdam. Margit also previously served on the supervisory board of the Rietveld Academy and as an advisor to the Mondriaanfonds.

Broersen and Lukács on mentoring:

Our artistic practice has developed a personal, experimental, and critical approach to using new digital technologies. In our collaborations with musicians, artists, and scholars, we aim to foster an open dialogue where we learn from one another.

“As mentors, we look forward to sharing our experiences in developing an international career, setting up collaborations, and navigating the process of funding, producing, and realizing ambitious projects in the Netherlands and abroad.”
