A realistic fee for the artist is mandatory and must be included in the budget of exhibitions or presentations without a sales objective*. This fee is a budget in addition to production costs.
There is currently uncertainty about the artists’ fees guideline to be applied.
You can therefore choose one of the two calculator options below to determine which artist’s fee you want to apply. You can calculate rates from the previously established, classic guideline using the classic guideline artist’s fee calculator (indexed to 2025 rates). You can also opt for the later proposed artist fee guideline (based on the rate table below, price level 2023).
The Mondriaan Fund accepts both options until there is a broadely supported and well-developed new guideline.
*For permanent works, the guideline of the Rijksgebouwendienst can be used to determine what a realistic fee would be for such commissions.
