Jorge A. Fernandez Torres is a curator, art critic, professor at the Higher Institute of Arts in Havana. He is a former director of the Wifredo Lam Center of Contemporary Art, The Havana Biennale, member of the Commission for Cuban Cultural Development of UNESCO, and the Advisory Council for the Arts on the National Library of Cuba. He curated and authored exhibition publications including: “Art Practices and Social Imageries” for the 2012 Havana Biennial, “Polaridad Complementaria: Recent Works from Cuba” (Havana), and “El Lugar Construido” (Spain)
In November 2017 a group of curators from the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Switzerland visited Cuba (Havana) and the United States (Miami, Houston and New Orleans) during the Orientation trip organized by the Mondriaan Fund.
The visit is organized in collaboration with the Netherlands embassy in Havana.
He held a talk about The Havana Biennale—Going against the stream: In search of the lost audience at Leiden University.
