Sam Steverlynck

Sam Steverlynck (°1979) is an art critic and curator. Since 2018, he has been co-editor-in-chief of HART magazine. For six years, he was art critic at De Standaard newspaper and was often a guest in the cultural programme Pompidou of radio KLARA. He has written for several (art) magazines like Art Review, artpress, Flash Art, Metropolis M, DAMn°, Extra Extra and has moderated various (artist) talks (WIELS, Witte de With, West Den Haag, Cinema Zuid, Villa Empain,…).

In 2014, he organised the exhibition A Simple Plan, held in a villa in Kruiskerk designed by Stéphane Beel (with, among others, Pierre Bismuth, Gert Robijns, Honoré d’0, de vylder vinck taillieu, René Heyvaert, Willy De Sauter, Istvan Ist Huzjan, Greet Billiet, DD Trans). In 2015, he started a residency programme in an iconic 1958 villa by René Heyvaert in Destelbergen (with Peter Swinnen, de vylder, vinck, taillieu, Patrick Van Caeckenbergh, DD Trans, Filip Dujardin, Lieve Heyvaert).

Steverlynck was co-curator of the 2019 exhibition One Thing Plus Another Thing or One Thing Minus Another Thing, That’s How Stories Begin (with Jason Dodge, Pavel Büchler, Jimmy Robert, Omer Fast, Helena Almeida, Yann Sérandour, Pavel Bücher, Ian Whittlesea, Julien Crépieux, Heman Chong, Christopher Knowles, Amalia Pica) at Tlön Projects, The Hague.

Together with the Australian artist Dome Wood, he founded the nomadic art space The Agprognostic Temple in September 2020. It is a temple/ art space/ Gesamtkunstwerk dedicated to the esoteric and the spiritual. The opening exhibition, Chapter 1: Scripted Truths, functioned as a manifesto (with Ricardo Brey, Fia Cielen, Benjamin Husson, Felix Kindermann, Philippe Koeune, Shana Moulton, Isabel Tesfazghi, Lou Touchard, Filip Vervaet), followed by the solo show The Warning by Nicolas Provost. Future shows are Mirrored Infinities in April 2021, an exhibition that mirrors Chapter 1 (with Joris Van de Moortel, James Lee Byars, Sanam Khatibi, Laurie Charles, Julien Saudubray, Serene Blumenthal, McCloud Zicmuse, Antoine Waterkeyn) and a solo exhibition by Léonard Pongo in May 2021.
